Bioelectrogenesis Group has been invited to participate in the third Dissemination workshop of the Nano4water cluster that will take place on 17-18 April 2013 in Dresden, Germany.
The workshop themed 'Nano-and membrane-based systems for water treatment' will be organised and housed by Fraunhofer IKTS, coordinator of the Cerawater project
Bioelectrogenesis PI Dr.Abraham Esteve-Núñez will talk about 'BACWIRE project: Bacterial wiring for energy conservation and bioremediation’ and the latest project achivements.
The University of Alicante hosted on November 26 the workshop Bacwire with the aim to demonstrate the Bacwire project's achievements, funded by the 7FP. Spanish and European companies specialized in water treatment attended the event and tested the performance of our prototype microbial fuel cell at pilot scale, capable of converting wastewater into electricity.

The Madrid Science Week is one of the most important science fair projects in Europe. This twelfth edition hosts more than 400 organizations involved with the common goal of bringing science and technology to the citizens. The Science Week is organized by the Community of Madrid, through madri+d Foundation for Knowledge. This year’s event runs from November 5-18th, 2012.

Every year since 2009 Bioelectrogenesis participates in the activities of the week. At this year's edition, attendees will deepen into the microbial ecology of electrogenic bacteria by inserting electrodes in Winogradsky columns.
The first EU-ISMET meeting will be held next September in Ghent, Belgium. From Thursday, September 27 till Friday September 28, 2012 this 2-day event will provide an interaction platform for European researchers, engineers and students working in the field of microbial electrochemical technology and at the microbe-electrode interface. The state-of-the-art of this technology will be presented by oral or poster presentations. Furthermore, leading researchers will give their view on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Organized by the International Society for Microbial Electrochemical Technologies, EU-ISMET will be an opportunity to contact industrial partners. In addition to this meeting, a preceding 1-day training workshop will be organized at September 26th, and will focus on the training of current electrochemical techniques used to characterize biocatalyzed systems.
Bioelectrogenesis Group will attend EU-ISMET with four presentations that are representative of their research lines: physiology of electrogenic microorganisms, environmental microbial electrogenesis and electrogenic bioengineering. Bioelectrogenesis will be also present through the Bacwire stand, in order to show the progress of this 7FP project.

Bioelectrogenesis team member Sara Tejedor has been finalist in the competition along with graphic designer Carlos Martinez in the national poster contest `Chemistry in our life’. In the first round, Tejedor and Martinez won the first prize at the University of Alcalá.
The contest, organized by Spanish Conference of Deans of Chemistry, is part of the International Year of Chemistry. Its goal is to bring Chemistry to society, and to promote their knowledge in areas such as art, health, sports, food and whatever else deemed relevant.
Sara Tejedor has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Complutense University and performed his predoctoral research at IMDEA Water.
Bioelectrogenesis Group and UAH will join the Madrid Researchers' Night 2011. The event will be held on September 23 across differents locations on Madrid area. The Researchers' Night is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and is associated with the European celebration that takes place simultaneously in over 200 European cities.
The aim is bringing together scientists and citizens to show their job, the benefits to society and its impact on everyday life. During this edition 14 activities will be held in different parts of the Community of Madrid between 18:00 and 24:00 hours.
Bioelectrogenesis' activity will be focused on a new source of energy based on ruminal bacteria. It will be held at Royal Botanical Garden Juan Carlos I in Alcalá de Henares.
